The summer of 2019 is coming to an end. And what could be a better way to put a finishing touch on an exciting summer than a Go Kart tournament, filled with adrenaline, sweat and drama? Yeah, that’s exactly what we thought too. “Speedway” is the newest and arguably the most demanding kart track in Lithuania. The 900 meter long track consists of tens of sweeping turns, terrain and altitude changes, as well as a feature that can’t be overstated – it’s situated outdoors with all the changing weather providing the drivers a whole new set of variables to take into consideration. A perfect place for a challenge!
The tournament rules were perfect to include everyone and build up a friendly competition spirit for all of us. First off we were divided into two groups, as the track couldn’t handle the entire team of Adeo Web at once. First run was the practise – both groups got 10min of drive time to get familiar with the track and the slower – 9 horse-powered – karts.
Second run – qualifications – turned the level of competitiveness to a higher degree. The best qualifying lap time of every team member would decide their starting position in the final run. Even more so – for qualifications we used the more powerful – 13HP – karts. This resulted in quite a few more dramatic episodes: few heated body contacts, spin-offs and even a couple of Adeo Web team members sliding off the track. Needless to say, emotions were running hot at this point.
Final runs consisted of the two finals. First group’s final was an extremely close race and had some fascinating wheel-to-wheel racing. Oh, did I forget to mention that a huge storm cloud was forming over our heads this whole time? And do you still remember the part about this race track being situated outdoors? I’ll let you figure out the rest. Let’s just say that the lap times dropped in the middle of the first group’s final and some Tokyo drift action followed with a close finish.
Finally, it was time for the top final. Fully equipped in some rain-gear we were ready for the last run of the day. The pole positions assigned by the fastest laps did not mean that the race was clear and over – far from that. The very first turn resulted in a few drivers sliding off the track, but quick thinking and commitment to push it to the limit led drivers to jump out and push their own karts back on track to continue the race. The closest comparison I can think of would be trying to run a marathon on clear ice – you can try to push it and simply go for it, but the most patient, stable and accurate participant will take home the win. Our most experienced race driver – Simas – has proved to be the fastest in any weather thrown at him – congratulations! A close second and third places were taken by the seasoned Speedway racer Aurelijus and a newcomer of Adeo Web – Žilvinas.
Non-stop rain meant that the awards ceremony wasn’t very long and we hastily jumped to our cars and got on our way back home. This didn’t stop us from getting a celebratory dinner together, though. This was the second year Adeo Speedway tournament took place and it seems that the tradition will stick.
Will you join us next year?
