Presenting to you – one of our most prideful pieces of work – The World. It’s a room at the heart of Adeo Web headquarters. No, it’s more than just a room. It’s us.
We at Adeo Web do not take half-measures. We get excited at every opportunity to get our hands dirty and if we choose to do something, we do it right. So when we decided that one of the rooms in our office was too dull and gray (both figuratively and literally), we took a novel approach to fix that.
Before we’ve started, the room was dark grey and felt compressed as it does not have any natural light in it. The goal was to make it brighter, more colorful and more spaceful. Since it was us who would be working in this space every day, it was essential to make it cozy and productive. But here’s the problem – we did not want to give this task away and let other people decide how our home looks like. So we’ve called for help. A good friend of ours – artist and manager of design studio “Gyva Grafika” Tadas Šimkus has accepted our call and offered us his guidance.
We wanted the room to represent who we are and do it ourselves, so where do we start? Well, the idea, obviously. We’ve had some regular ideas – to paint the mountains, the sea or space. But this idea would not represent all of us, would it? So we’ve decided to each add a piece of a personal touch to the room. And thus the concept for the design came to life.
Each of us has picked a handful of stuff that we wanted to put on the wall of The World. Maps, memes and inside jokes – anything goes, as long as it’s funny, unique and represents you. We collected more than 50 suggestions! With the help of Tadas we have narrowed them down and got to work.
Firstly, the wall was painted light grey, to improve the room’s lighting. Then – to showcase the fact that Adeo Web is a global eCommerce agency – we’ve painted over a map of the world.
After we had our foundation, Tadas Šimkus has put on a mock-up with all of our selected pictures on a projector. We’ve picked our special markers and colored the pictures. Let me tell you, climbing scaffolds in an office was a first for many of us! We’ve squatted and painted until our legs have gone numb and then some more. But we did it. “Gyva Grafika” team has helped a lot, they painted the 3D pictures with special paint and glued them on the wall as well.
Since Adeo Web has 3 offices around the world, we’ve also set the time on the clocks to represent the current time in Kaunas, Stockholm, and Chicago as well, so we’d know if our colleagues can be bothered by a stream of funny gifs yet.
All in all, it took about a week to prepare and paint the room. The biggest thanks there is goes to design studio “Gyva Grafika” and their team. We could not have achieved this without them.
We are more than happy with the end result and every guest we have adds to our satisfaction with their compliments. If you ever come up a boring wall – you know who to call!
How fun would a masterpiece be, without hidden Easter eggs? Here are some of ours hidden in The World, let’s see if you can spot them all:
- We’ve paid our dues to the previous inhabitants of this room – our fellows at Sneaky Box. Can you find their logo?
- Our deepest respects to Stephen Hawkings
- Inside jokes from Adeo Web – bicycles, sarcastic jokes, and the constant verification heard before our meetings – “Will there be snacks?”
- Distance to Jupiter for our astronomy fans
- The most spontaneous idea – to paint the logo of our SAAS solution PassCamp
- One of the pictures was painted by the girlfriend of one of our developers. It’s a Linux wizard who is now strategically accompanied by Mindaugas – a Linux wizard of our own
