Being a female in the tech field is not a very controversial topic these days, but no one can deny the fact that most of the industry is dominated by men. Certain professions have always had stereotypes attached to them. Before, men could be whatever they wanted to be while women were limited to more ‘gentle’ jobs. Doctors, politicians, lawyers – back in the day, a woman couldn’t even consider these as an option. One would say that times have changed, but there’s always that invisible societal gatekeeping that keeps the numbers of women in tech pretty low
While it may take some time to rewire society into an equality oriented approach, we might as well start on something simple. This is where “Women Go Tech” comes into the picture. Being the one-of-a-kind mentorship program as it is, “Women Go Tech” focuses on helping out tech-oriented female students and rookie professionals.
How? Just like it says on the tin. Every selected mentee is assigned a mentor all for themselves for the duration of the five-month program. These mentors are selected from a wide range of specializations in the tech field – and every single one of them is ready to help out. With so many highly-skilled mentors, the mentees are sure to find a lot of useful counsel and connections throughout the program.
The process of mentorship is simple but warrants an incredibly rewarding experience.
The mentee meets with her mentor at least once a month. During the meeting, they answer all of the mentee’s questions and start discussions on new relevant topics. This ensures that invaluable guidance from the mentor is passed along effectively. Mentor makes sure that mentee has all the information needed to grow and advance with the goals she has in mind for the duration of the program. We wholeheartedly support the idea behind this program and made sure to do our part – Adeo Web CEO Paulius Nagys joined “Women Go Tech” as one of the mentors.
Another important takeaway from the mentorship program were all the exciting “Women Go Tech” workshops, seminars, and other activities organized by the team. This year’s program was concluded with a large event where everyone got the chance to share the fruits of their labor. A big thank you goes out to the program’s organizers and supporters. As for the ladies in the tech field, Adeo Web wishes all the best to those who participated this year. Next year is bound to be even greater, so make sure to get involved in Women Go Tech too!
